BASL Masterclass: Trans* and Intersex Athletes in Sport



We are incredibly excited to announce that the fourth session in the 2021 BASL Masterclass Series will be ‘Trans* and Intersex Athletes in Sport’, taking place on Friday 18th June at 9am (GMT).

The session will be delivered by Dr Andy Harvey, consultant in sport social science. He has research interests in sport, gender and sexuality and has published in the field. He has taught on numerous executive, professional and academic programmes. The masterclass will also feature vignettes from Dr Veronica Ivy, successful cyclist and Transgender Rights Activist and Richard Morris, Director of Partnerships at Racing Pride.

  • The ethics of sex segregation in sport

  • Gender verification

  • Defining Disorders in Sexual Development (DSD)

  • SGB rules on trans* and intersex athletes

  • The CAS decision on Caster Semenya

  • Achieving inclusion of trans* and intersex athletes in sport

This Masterclass is suitable for sports lawyers, sports professionals, and administrators seeking to update their knowledge. It will be especially valuable to those who may feel unsure as how best to deal with the complexities of highly contentious and personal issues of sport, sexuality, and gender.
