Out and About with Tactic Connect at the Women’s Sport Symposium and Insights Day

Last week, our paralegal Charlotte Clark attended the Women’s Sport Symposium at Squire Patton Boggs on Wednesday, 18th March, and then on Thursday, 19th March, the In-House Insights Day at Northridge Law.

The Squire Patton Boggs, Women’s Sport Symposium was a thought-provoking afternoon, which looked at the recent developments in women's sport, considering what the next stages of progress may be and acknowledging the areas and sports where there is a requirement for further investment and improvement. The event covered a range of sports, from football and athletics to motorsports, with discussion around viewership numbers, commercial value and investment potential of women’s sport.

A particular highlight was the panel focused on how governing bodies, clubs, and other organisations can capitalise on the spikes in viewership interest from major events such as the Red Roses' win at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup and the record-breaking numbers of female athletes at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, into sustainable developments for women’s sport. The panel discussed how these events can be used to build an impact that lasts beyond the singular event and convert visibility into long-term engagement in women’s sport and grow both audiences and participation numbers.

The Insights afternoon at Northridge focused on the unique challenges faced by in-house lawyers working in the sports sector. The afternoon explored how effective regulation can support fair, safe and commercially robust sports environments and how governing bodies, teams and clubs can best expertise their regulatory functions through governance and sporting rules. Additionally, the afternoon discussed how to regulate confidential information through employment contracts and how the upcoming employment law changes will uniquely affect the sports sector.

The highlight of the afternoon was the session on sports data, its value and why clear classification of data categories is essential for the sale of sports data. The discussion covered live broadcast data, exclusivity in data sale contracts, ticketing conditions, betting data and how sports data interacts with legal issues, integrity considerations, and that the sale of data is essential to the commercial value of the global sports landscape.

Together, these events support our team to continue to be informed, up to date and aware of all the latest developments in sport and law. Thank you to all those who organised these events and to the speakers for lending their expertise and knowledge on such interesting and relevant topics. Our clients will benefit greatly from this insight.
